This vintage Cowichan cardigan in heavy-knit, cream wool is Canadian and perfect for chilly winter days.
In classic fifties style, it bears a Canadian Goose or duck motif with two birds taking flight on the front and another pair flying across the back, below a shawl-neck collar.
The zip is by the Lightning Fastener Company, founded in St. Catharines of Ontario, Canada, in 1937. The firm's president, Gideon_Sundback, was the inventor of the zip fastening, though he referred to it as the Hookless Fastener. His first design was produced for the famous Talon brand, but he then developed an improved design for his own firm, Lightning, which is the zipper we know today. Later, Lightning manufactured zippers for Talon.
